Day One at ACC Indoor Championships in the Books

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson closed out day one of the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday. Three facility records fell through three completed events, with Duke leading the women’s competition with 23 points and Notre Dame atop the men’s standings with 10 points. Clemson did not score on day one.

The women’s distance medley relay established a season-best with a time of 11:38.21. The team of Brianna Blanton, Nia Fluker, Lindsey Bellaran and Alexa Womack posted the second-best time in school history Thursday. Fluker was outstanding, splitting 53.93 on the quarter mile leg which was the best of the 15 runners Thursday. The Tigers finished 10th as a team. The men’s DMR also followed with a 10th-place finish (10:08.61), with a lineup featuring Aaron Ramirez, Aaron Gambrell, Daniel Dey and James Dwyer.

Shemiah Brooks competed against a large field in the pentathlon, posting a 19th-place finish. Her best events were the 60 hurdles, where she ran 8.92, and the long jump, where she posted a leap of 17’11”. She is scheduled for the 60 hurdles Friday and triple jump Saturday.

The second day of competition cranks up Friday for the Tigers with the men’s and women’s high jump at 12:30 p.m. The first running event for Clemson is the women’s mile at 1. ESPN3 will carry the action live starting at 4.
