Cross Country to Open Season

CLEMSON, S.C. — The cross country season begins Friday for Clemson’s men and women, who travel up the road to USC Upstate to compete in the Eye Opener Invitational. The Tigers are scheduled to race in the women’s 5K and men’s 8K competitions in Spartanburg, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The two teams are led by returning veterans Grace Barnett and James Quattlebaum, respectively, although neither will make their season debuts this weekend. Beyond them, several upperclassmen return for coaches Mark Elliott and Michael Porter.

On the women’s roster, Evie Tate and Catherine Herring return as seniors after putting forth their best cross country seasons last fall. One of the newcomers expected to contribute quickly is Logan Morris, who coincidentally will open her Tiger career in her hometown. She was a two-time South Carolina Gatorade Runner of the Year for Spartanburg Christian Academy.

For the men, Micah Williams and Clayton Wilson displayed noticeable improvement in 2015, and look to join Quattlebaum in leading the Tigers this fall.
