The Clemson men’s and women’s cross country teams will play host to a One ClemsonŠSolid Orange event on Saturday, the Clemson Invitational. The women’s collegiate 5K race will start at 8:30 AM, while the men’s collegiate 8K event is set for 9:15 AM. The start and finish lines are located adjacent to the Clemson Indoor Facility. Following the Clemson Invitational, high school boys and girls will compete on both the varsity and junior varsity level.
The Lady Tigers got off to a strong start last weekend, claiming first place in the Gamecock Invitational. Jenny Barton won her first individual title, while teammate Casey Phillips finished second. All seven Lady Tigers that traveled finished in the top 28 of the field. The women’s collegiate race will consist of 12 teams, including Charlotte, Furman, Gardner-Webb, Georgia, Mars Hill, UNC Asheville, South Carolina, South Carolina State, Western Carolina, and Wofford. The Lady Tigers finished third in the event last season, but Phillips was the event’s individual winner.
The men’s team will be competing in its first event of the season on Saturday. Head Coach Itay Magidi and Clay Pendleton, to lead the team this season. Competing in the men’s collegiate will be 12 teams, including Charlotte, Furman, Gardner-Webb, Georgia, Mars Hill, Morehouse, UNC Asheville, South Carolina State, Western Carolina, and Wofford. The Tigers won the event last season, with Magidi claiming individual honors.
