CLEMSON, SC – Clemson’s women finished fifth and the Tiger men were sixth at the cross country Pac-12 Preview on Friday in Santa Clarita, CA. The meet, Clemson’s second of the season, was held at the Robinson Ranch Golf Course. Texas won the women’s team competition behind three of the top eight finishers. Texas totaled 56 team points, besting UC Davis and Northern Arizona who tied for second with 73 apiece. UCLA, the host school, had 97 points to hold off Clemson who had 108. Natalie Anthony was the top female performer for the Tigers on Friday evening. The junior from Randolph, NJ was 11th place individually out of 63 runners. She posted a time of 18:00 after getting off to a fast start. Anthony has now been in the top two of Clemson’s lineup through the first couple of meets, as she took third place at the season opener. Erin Barker was the team’s No. 2 runner Friday. The Furman graduate produced a 17th-place finish and had a 5K time of 18:13. She was followed by Kate Borowicz in 22nd position. Borowicz’ time was 18:26. Cara Talty (18:39) and Alyssa Henshaw (18:55) were the team’s fourth and fifth runners, respectively. Talty took 26th place, while Henshaw came across the finish line 32nd. Northern Arizona recorded 23 points in a dominant men’s 8K victory. UCLA (58) and Arizona State (66) were second and third. Cal Poly and Sacramento State took fourth and fifth, respectively. Clemson accumulated 172 points. On the men’s side, sophomore Aaron Ramirez was the leader of a young travel squad. He finished 17th individually with a time of 25:13. He was followed by freshman Roland Hakes of Dutch Fork High School. Hakes had a time of 25:58 and was 35th overall. Martin Maloney was Clemson’s No. 3 runner Friday in the men’s 8K. The Clemson graduate posted a time of 26:35 and crossed the finish line in 46th place. The final two scorers on the day for the Tigers were freshmen – Travis Christenberry (49th, 26:46) and Steven Phillips (51st, 26:53). The Tigers will return to action on Friday, Sept. 28 in the Charlotte (NC) Invitational.
