Crawford Earns Two All-American Honors At NCAA Track Championships

DURHAM, N.C. – Shawn Crawford (SR, Van Wyck, SC) earned two All-American honors and became Clemson’s most decorated men’s track athlete at the NCAA Men’s Track and Field Championships at Durham, NC Friday evening.

Three different athletes earned four All-American honors in tonight’s action by either finishing in the top eight of the finals or qualifying for the finals of an event. Crawford became an All-American in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, while Todd Matthews became an All-American in the 110 meter hurdles. Fred Sharpe is now an All-American in the 400 meter hurdles.

Crawford qualified for the 100 and 200 meter finals and earned All-American honors in each event. He has won 11 All-America honors during his career. With the two All-America certificates he won tonight, he passed James Trapp’s previous school record of 10 All-American honors. Trapp was an all-star sprinter for the Tigers during the 1990-92 seasons.

In the 100 meters semifinals, Sean Crawford qualified for Saturday’s final with a time of 10.17, tied for the sixth fastest time today. The finals of the 100 meters will be Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Crawford qualified for the finals of the 200 meter dash with a time of 20.38 in the semifinals. The finals of the 200 meter dash will be 8:10 p.m. Saturday.

Crawford had the fourth fastest time in today’s semifinals.

Sophomore Todd Matthews earned All-American honors as he qualified for the finals of the 110 meter hurdles. Matthews finished the race with a time of 13.68, the fourth fastest time in today’s semifinals. The finals will be Saturday at 6:15 p.m.

Sophomore Fred Sharpe became an All-American as he finished seventh in the finals of the 400 Meter Hurdles with a time of 51.06.

In the decathlon, junior Andy Giesler is 14th overall with 3706 points after five events.
