@ClemsonWBB Drops Regular Season Finale at Virginia Tech

The Tigers close the regular season with a 12-18 overall record and 4-12 ledger in conference play. Clemson will await seeding for the ACC Tournament, which will be announced Sunday evening.  The Tournament commences on Mar. 5 in Greensboro, NC at the Greensboro Coliseum. Each of the other 14 teams in the league play their final contests on Sunday.  The Tigers cut a 14-point Tech lead down to nine on Kelly Gramlich’s 63rd three-pointer of the season with 15:07 left. However,  the Tigers went the next 11-plus minutes without a field goal, a 23-3 Hokie run, before Quinyotta Pettaway hit a layup with 4:33 left. Tech would lead by as many as 29 in the second half in closing out the Tigers.  For the second consecutive game, the Tigers struggled to clear the defensive glass, with Virginia Tech grabbing 14 offensive rebounds to the tune of 15 second chance points. The Tigers did not record a second chance point on just six offensive boards.  Nikki Dixon led Clemson with 13 points (3-8 FG, 7-9 FT) off the bench, while Chancie Dunn finished with ten on 5-14 from the floor. Chelsea Lindsay had nine points and four assists in 38 minutes as well.  Virginia Tech’s Uju Ugoka led all players with 23 points and 11 rebounds, and the Hokies hit 7-14 from behind the arc.  Team Notes:

  • The all-time series is now tied 8-8; The loss snapped Clemson’s three-game win streak in the series and two game streak in Blacksburg. 
  • Clemson did not record a second chance point for the first time this season, and the six offensive rebounds were tied for the second-fewest of the season
  • The Tigers had just 11 turnovers in the game, their fewest in an ACC game this season

Individual Notes:

  • Chancie Dunn scored in double-figures for the 11th time this season. She finished with 10 points on 5-14 shooting; She has scored in double figures in four of the last six games of the season. 
  • Nikki Dixon scored in double figures for the 19th time this season and for the 12th time in 16 ACC games. It was her 58th career game in double-figures, and needs just five points to pass Laura Cottrell (1994-97) for 17th in career scoring.  
  • Chelsea Lindsay played 38 minutes, her 26th game this season playing 30 or more minutes; 
  • Kelly Gramlich hit two three-pointers, giving her 63 on the season. This is the 6th-most in a single-season in school history
