@ClemsonVB Roars Past Boston College in Three Sets

CHESTNUT HILL, MA – The Clemson volleyball team won their fourth match in five outings with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-20) road victory over Boston College (12-9, 0-9 ACC) at Power Gym in Chestnut Hill, MA. The Tigers (11-9, 5-4 ACC) won their 12th straight match in the series, and improved to 17-2 against the Eagles all-time, including an 8-0 mark in Chestnut Hill.  The Tigers will now travel to Syracuse, NY to take on the Orange on Sunday at 1:00 pm.  Freshman right side hitter Leah Perri had 12 kills and hit .385 to lead the Tigers against the Eagles. She put down half of her kills in the third set alone, including three in a row during a key run. Mo Simmons was held to 11 kills and eight digs, her first ACC match this season without a double-double. However, she was in on a season-high four blocks, including three in the first set.  Libero Niki Collier had a match-high 16 digs, tying her career-high. Kristin Faust finished with nine kills and 10 digs while hitting .273. Additionally, Beta Dumancic had seven kills and seven blocks, which included a huge, five kill-two solo block effort in the second set.  Clemson’s defense was strong, holding the Eagles to .124 hitting, while tallying ten blocks. This included a .000 mark in the third set. The Tigers also held Katty Workman to 11 kills and 11 errors in 43 swings. Workman entered the match third in the ACC behind Simmons in kills per set.  Clemson opened up an early 10-4 lead in the first set to force a BC timeout. BC was able to inch closer throughout the set, getting within two at 23-21. However, out of a timeout, Simmons put away a kill and an Amanda Yerke attack sailed wide to give the Tigers the set.  In the second frame, Clemson pounded out 16 kills, with five coming from Dumancic, Clemson clung to a late lead before three blocks got the Eagles even at 23-23. However, Dumancic found the floor and Lou Davis fooled Workman on a serve for the set-clinching ace.  The third set was closest of all, with eight ties and four lead changes early on. Clemson made a late run with the set tied at 17-17. Simmons and Faust connected on back-to-back kills and extended the lead to 22-19 on another Yerke error. After a sideout brought the score to 22-20 Tigers, Faust registered a kill, and PErri found the floor on a cross-court smash to clinch the match.  After a meeting with the Orange in New York on Sunday, Clemson will return home to play Virginia and Virginia Tech in Jervey Gym next week.
