TALLAHASSEE, FL – The Clemson volleyball team fell to 16th-ranked Florida State (23-7, 16-3 ACC) 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 26-16) at Tully Gym in Tallahassee, FL on Wednesday. The Tigers (15-15, 9-10 ACC) will wrap up the 2013 season on Friday at Miami at 7:00 PM.
Mo Simmons led the Tigers in the match with 17 kills and seven digs. With her 17 kills, she now has 537 kills on the season, which ranks as fifth most in school history. Simmons also had 45 attempts in the match to give her 1,513 for the season, second most in school history.
Niki Collier paced the Tigers with 16 digs while Kristin Faust had 11. Leah Perri added eight kills for the Tigers in the match.
The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the The Tigers, who hit just .174 for the match while the Seminoles hit .295. The two were nearly even in blocks as Clemson recorded 7.0 against Florida State’s 8.0. Hannah Brenner had five blocks for the Tigers while Faust added four.
Florida State was led by Nicole Walch with 12 kills and Sarah Burrington with 10 kills and a .556 hitting percentage. Three Seminole defenders recorded double-digit digs led by Katie Mosher with 19.
The Tigers fell in set one by a score 25-21 after leading 15-12 early in the set. Late in the set, with the score tied at 20, the Seminoles took five of the next six points to close out the set. Simmons had nine kills in the set, matching her total from the previous match. The Tigers hit .257 in that set against a .417 hitting percentage for the Seminoles.
In set two, the two teams traded points to a 13-13 tie before FSU went on a 4-0 run. The Tigers responded with a 4-0 run of the their own to tie it at 18-18. The Seminoles closed out the set by taking four of the final six points to take it 25-23.
The third and final set was controlled largely by Florida State as they closed out the match taking the set 25-16. The Seminoles had a stretch in which they outscored the Tigers 15-4. Clemson put up a fight though going on a 4-0 run to avoid match point before the Seminoles eventually took the set and the match.
