Clemson’s Wesley Moran Clinches Match for The Tigers

CLEMSON, SC – Wesley Moran defeated Calum Gee at number five singles in clinching the match and leading #53 Clemson to a 4-3 win over Davidson in a men’s intercollegiate tennis match at Clemson, SC on Saturday.

With the scored tied 3-3, Moran defeated Gee, 2-6, 7-6, 7-5 at number five singles to give the Tigers the victory. Clemson is now 4-0 on the year, while Davidson falls to 0-3 this season. The Tigers are ranked 53rd nationally.

After Clemson won the doubles point, the Tigers were leading 3-2. Davidson tied the score at 3-3 when Kevin Moore defeated the Tigers’ Dominique Maden at number six singles 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Moran then defeated Gee to claim the match.

“It’s amazing, you always think you are maybe a little better, we are 3-0 with a couple of great wins,” said Clemson Head Coach Chuck McCuen. However, today’s match proved everybody is good and everybody is hungry. We are a team everyone wants to beat. It was great for Wesley, he was given a great test and he came through. It is definitely great to be tested earl, tough early challenges make you better.”

Clemson will play host to Gardner-Webb tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in the Tigers’ next action.
