Clemson’s Ulfarsdottir Captures 200m At Clemson Opener

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson’s Silja Ulfarsdottir led the Lady Tigers at the 2004 Clemson Opener held Friday at the Clemson Indoor Track and Field Facility. The senior from Reyjkavic, Iceland, won the 400m dash in the team’s 2004-05 season debut. Overall, 25 student-athletes, including 15 women, posted provisional or automatic qualifying performances in the first indoor meet of the year.

In the 60m dash, Silja Ulfarsdottir captured the 400m with a time of 55.21, while Jessica Cousins placed third in 57.18. In the 800m, Christina Smith was the Lady Tigers’ top finisher, placing second in 2:23.96. Clemson swept second through fifth places in the 3000m run, as Casey Phillips led the Lady Tigers with a runner-up finish and time of 10:36.39. Jennifer Barton took third place in 10:39.09, Sudati Masasu placed fourth with a time of 10:49.63 and Patrice McMillan recorded a time of 10:50.80 for fifth place. Ulfarsdottir was the Lady Tigers’ top finisher in the 60m hurdles with a third-place finish and time of 8.61, while Smith placed fourth in 8.62.

In the field events, Sara Young was Clemson’s leader in the pole vault, finishing fourth with a mark of 11’11.75″. Michelle Rogers earned a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with her mark of 39’8.75″. In the throws, Della Clark was the Lady Tigers’ top finisher, placing seventh in the shot put (42’8″) and ninth in the weight throw (57’8.5″).

The Lady Tigers return to action Jan. 14-15, 2005, at the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington, KY.
