Clemson’s Silja Ulfarsdottir Sets School Record In 400m Hurdles At ACC Championships

TALLAHASSEE, FL – Seniors Gisele Oliveira and Silja Ulfarsdottir highlighted the final day of competition for the Clemson women’s track and field team at the 2005 ACC Outdoor Championships. The Lady Tigers finished sixth in the team race, as Miami won its first ACC Outdoor Championship. Silja Ulfarsdottir set the school record en route to a second-place finish in the 400m hurdles, while Gisele Oliveira set the ACC Championship meet record in the triple jump. The Lady Tigers’ 4x400m relay team of Ulfarsdottir, Randi Hinton, Tia Perry won the ACC crown in the final running event of the meet.

In the 400m hurdles, Silja Ulfarsdottir earned All-ACC honors with a second-place finish and time of 56.62. With that time, Ulfarsdottir set the Clemson record in the event. The previous school record time was 56.64 set in 1999 by Nikkie Bouyer. This marked the second time that Ulfarsdottir earned all-conference honors in the event as she also placed second in the event a year ago.

In the triple jump, Gisele Oliveira earned her second ACC crown of this year’s meet, as she claimed the title for the third consecutive year. The senior from Porto Alegre, Brazil, recorded a leap of 44’8″ in her final ACC meet, re-setting the ACC meet record in the event.

Casey Phillips competed in the finals of the 1500m, completing the race in 4:47.40 to place 11th overall. Randi Hinton scored in the 200m dash with her time of 24.37, placing seventh. In the first running event final of the day, Clemson’s 4x100m relay team of Silja Ulfarsdottir, Randi Hinton, Renata Miyamoto crossed the finish line in 47.44 to place ninth.

The Lady Tigers wrapped up their running event at the ACC Championships with the 4x400m relay. Silja Ulfarsdottir, Randi Hinton, Sierra Hill and Tia Perry crossed the finish line in a season-best time of 3:40.25 to win the event. It was the second consecutive 4x400m relay outdoor title for the Lady Tigers. The Lady Tigers also qualified for the East Region Championships with that performance.

Anni Korhonen placed 10th in her first ACC Championship meet, clearing 5’3.25″ in the high jump. In the discus throw, Clemson’s Mikaela Patterson placed 11th with a mark of 146’2″, and Krystal Woods recorded a mark of 144’7″ to finish 13th overall.
