March 6, 2006

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson junior Ryan Young helped the Tigers to a pair of wins last week, including a conference win over a ranked opponent, earning Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Performer of the Week accolades.

Young helped the No. 15 Tigers post a 6-1 win over Georgia State on Friday and a 5-2 win over No. 17 Miami on Saturday.

In Clemson’s victory over the Panthers, Young turned in a 6-2, 6-3 win over Anze Cevka at No. 4 singles. Young also teamed with Ian Keeler to earn an 8-5 win over Matija Sulin and Jacek Twarowski at No. 3 doubles.

The junior from Charleston, S.C., also picked up wins against Miami as Clemson won its first ACC match of the season. Young topped the Hurricanes’ Eric Hechtman at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-2. The tandem of Young and Keeler picked up another win at No. 3 doubles, this time trumping Miami’s Vivek Subramanian and P.J. Passalacqua, 8-6.

The wins pushed Clemson’s record to 14-2 overall on the year, and 1-0 in the ACC. The Tigers return to the courts on Wednesday, March 8, when they will take on Georgia Tech in Atlanta.
