Clemson’s Oliveira Qualifies For Finals Of Long Jump At NCAA Championships

SACRAMENTO, CA – Clemson’s Gisele Oliveira opened competition for the Lady Tigers at the 2003 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Wednesday. The sophomore from Porto Alegre, Brazil, qualified for the finals of the long jump with a leap of 20’8.5″. Oliveira set her best mark on her second attempt of the meet. On Thursday, Oliveira will compete in the qualifying round of the triple jump, an event in which she is Clemson’s all-time record-holder.

Joana Costa will also compete on Thursday, in the qualifying round of the pole vault. The senior from Sao Paolo, Brazil is making her first appearance at the NCAA Championships, and is the first Lady Tiger vaulter to advance to the national meet.
