Clemson’s Miller, GT’s Farmer, UVA’s Wilson Earn ACC Baseball Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, NC – Clemson shortstop Brad Miller has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the third time this season, while Georgia Tech’s Buck Farmer and Virginia’s Tyler Wilson are the Co-Pitchers of the Week.

Miller led Clemson to four wins last week by hitting .526 (10-for-19) with one homer, seven RBIs, four runs, two walks, one hit-by-pitch, and a .591 on-base percentage in five games. Against East Tennessee State on Wednesday, the Windermere, Fla., junior went 4-for-4 with three RBIs. His biggest hit of the week came at Virginia Tech in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday. With the score tied 3-3 in the eighth inning, Miller blasted a three-run homer to propel the Tigers to an eventual 8-3 victory. On the season, Miller leads the ACC in batting average (.435) and on-base percentage (.534) while totaling 10 doubles, three triples, three home runs, 42 RBIs, 45 runs, 34 walks, and 20 stolen bases in 45 games (43 starts).

Farmer won both of his starts over Illinois-Chicago and No. 9 North Carolina, allowing just one run (0.60 ERA) in 15 innings pitched on the week. Farmer yielded the one run over 7.0 innings in a victory over the Flames on Monday, before scattering just four hits over 8.0 shutout innings to lead the Jackets to a huge series victory over the Tar Heels on Sunday. The Conyers, Ga. native had seven strikeouts on the day, including one to end the third, fourth, sixth and eighth inning. He allowed just one runner to advance past second base all game. Farmer combined with closer Luke Bard for the shutout, making it the first time the Tar Heels had been blanked all season. He has seven victories in conference play, the most of any pitcher in the ACC.

Wilson dominated No. 16 Miami as the No. 1 Cavaliers earned a key ACC 3-2 win in a battle of ranked teams on Saturday. He tied career highs in innings (7.2) and strikeouts (11) and allowed just two base-runners and no runs before departing in the eighth inning. Wilson retired the first 17 Hurricane batters of the contest before surrendering a two-out hit to Shane Rowland in the sixth inning to break up the perfect game. The Midlothian, Va. senior’s solid outing allowed the Cavaliers to even the series, which they eventually won with another one-run victory on Sunday.
