Clemson’s Men’s Track And Field Relays, Individuals Qualify For NCAA Championships

ATLANTA– The Clemson men’s track and field team competed at the Georgia Tech Invitational this weekend at the George C. Griffin Track. The Tigers’ 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay, Dwight Thomas and Todd Matthews recorded NCAA qualifying marks over the weekend.

The 4x100m relay team of Airese Currie, Otto Spain, Jacey Harper and Dwight Thomas recorded a season-best and provisional qualifying time of 39.57. The Tigers’ 1600m relay team of Harper, Thomas, Spain and Ato Modibo also posted a season-best mark with a provisional qualifying time of 3:05.71. Senior Todd Matthews recorded a season-best mark in the 110m hurdles preliminaries with a time of 13.73. Matthews finished third in the event and automatic qualified for the NCAA Championships.

Airese Currie competed in the 100m dash. In the preliminaries, Thomas recorded a provisional qualifying time of 10.49, while Harper and Currie posted times of 10.69 and 10.80, respectively. George Kitchens recorded a mark of 22’1″/6.73m in the long jump, and Brit Barrow finished fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 50’2.75″/15.31m. Matt Lombardi recorded a throw of 49’0.75″ in the shot put.

The Tigers will compete at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 29-June 1 in Baton Rouge, LA.
