GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the second week in a row, a student-athlete from Clemson has been selected Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week as Marquez Smith received the recognition for May 7. Florida State’s Danny Rosen becomes the second Seminole to earn Pitcher of the Week honors this season.
Smith was 6-for-11 (.545) with two doubles, three homers, eight RBI, and a walk in three games last week. In Sunday’s doubleheader against Boston College, the third baseman was a combined 5-for-7 with a double, three homers and eight RBI. He hit a solo homer in the first game of the doubleheader, and then hit a double and had two home runs in the second. With Clemson trailing 6-3 in game two with two outs in the seventh inning, the senior from Ocala, Fla., came through with a grand slam to give the Tigers the lead for good in the 7-6 win. Smith also had a 1.545 slugging percentage and .583 on-base percentage during the week and did not commit an error in six chances in the field.
Clemson hits the field Tuesday, playing a single game against Wofford in Greenville, S.C., at 7:15 p.m.
