CLEMSON, SC – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its 2011 indoor track & field award winners on Monday. Clemson Director of Track & Field Lawrence Johnson and multi-event athlete Miller Moss were recipients of two of the top honors given by the ACC. Johnson was named Women’s Coach-of-the-Year, while Moss was named Men’s Field Athlete-of-the-Year.
Johnson guided the Clemson women to their second consecutive ACC indoor team championship. His team defeated second place Florida State by a margin of 51.5 points, one of the largest in ACC history. Johnson then took the Tigers to a tie for 11th at the NCAA Indoor Championships, where he personally coached 60m hurdles national champion Brianna Rollins. Johnson, now a three-time recipient of the ACC’s Coach-of-the-Year honor, was also named Southeast Region Women’s Indoor Coach-of-the-Year earlier this month.
Moss won the NCAA championship in the heptathlon with a record 5,986 points. He became the first multi-event national champion in Clemson history with his performance. It was his second major victory of the 2011 indoor season, as he also won gold at the ACC Championships (5,881 pts) in late February. Moss, a graduate student from Sumter, SC, was also the recipient of the USTFCCCA’s Indoor Field Performer-of-the-Year honors for men’s track & field.
