Clemson’s Heidi Cooper Earns Volleyball Academic All-District Honors

CLEMSON, S.C.-Clemson volleyball player Heidi Cooper was honored Thursday as a member of the 1999 GTE Academic All-District 3 Volleyball Team, University Division.

Cooper, a junior defensive specialist from Clemson, S.C., carries a 4.00 GPA in biochemistry. She has played in 99 games this season and has recorded 257 digs. Versus ACC opponents, Cooper had 153 digs, an average of 2.78 digs per game. She has also tallied 16 assists and eight service aces.

Cooper recorded 16 digs in Clemson’s 3-2 win at Wake Forest and had 16 digs in Clemson’s 3-2 win over South Carolina. She also had 15 digs in Clemson’s 3-2 win at #25 North Carolina. Cooper reached double-figures in digs in 10 matches this season.

The Clemson volleyball team (29-1, 15-1 ACC) clinched the program’s first ACC regular season championship last weekend. The team, ranked 13th nationally, is competing at the ACC Tournament in Orlando, FL, this week.

College sports information directors from district schools nominate student-athletes and vote on the GTE Academic All-District team. All nominees must be at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing and carry a cumulative 3.2 GPA or higher. District III and the University Division consists of Division I colleges and universities in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. All members selected to the district team will advance to the national ballot.
