Clemson Women’s Track And Field Wins Four Events At Illinois Carle/Health Alliance Classic

CHAMPAIGN, IL – The Clemson women’s track and field team won four events and turned in several season-best performances at the Carle/Health Alliance Classic hosted by the University of Illinois on Saturday. As a team, the Lady Tigers finished second in the team race, accumulating 113 points. The Fighting Illini tallied 153 points to win the meet, while California-Berkeley took third place with 106 points. Western Illinois accrued 57 points and Illinois State rounded out the field with 41 points.

On the track, Randi Hinton paced the Lady Tigers in the 60m dash with her season-best time of 7.58 to finish third, then won the 400m in 55.27. Jessica Cousins took fourth place in the 60m with a time of 7.63 and Silja Ulfarsdottir rounded out the top five with a time of 7.66. Cousins claimed the 200m dash with a time of 24.23, and Ulfarsdottir was the runner-up in 24.43. Shakirah Rutherford took third place in the 200m with a time of 25.15. Casey Phillips clocked a season-best time of 5:00.58 in the mile to place fourth and Patrice McMillan was fifth in 5:12.45. Sudati Masasu was the Lady Tiger leader in the 800m, finishing in 2:16.12, another season-best performance, and McMillan took fourth place (2:16.17). Jelyn Quick took third place in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.83 and Jelyn Quick finished fourth in 4:03.37.

In the field events, Gisele Oliveira placed fifth with a clearance of 5’2.25″. Sara Young and Beth Jordan were third and fourth, respectively, in the pole vault with a mark of 10’6″. Oliveira captured the long jump with a mark of 19’2.75″, and Moultrie placed fifth (17’8.25″). Krystal Woods led Clemson in the shot put with a mark of 39’1″ and then finished third in the weight throw with a season-best mark of 54’5.5″.

The Clemson women’s track and field team returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 14 as the Lady Tigers host the Tiger Invitational at the Clemson Indoor Track and Field Facility.
