Clemson Women’s Track And Field To Compete At Spec Towns Invitational

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s track and field team will compete at the University of Georgia Spec Towns Invitational on Saturday, Apr. 10. Teams participating include: Georgia, The Citadel, Georgia Southern, Charleston Southern, Clemson, Samford, UNC-Wilmington, East Tennessee State, Furman, Oglethorpe, South Carolina State, South Florida, Troy State, Western Carolina, Wallace State, Clark Atlanta, Savannah State, Kennesaw State and Auburn. Field events will begin at 11 a.m. with the men’s pole vault, while the women’s 5,000 meters will kick off running events at 11:30 a.m. More information regarding the Spec Towns Invitational and post-meet results can be found at www.georgiadogs.com. Saturday’s meet will be the final tune-up for the Lady Tigers before the ACC Championships, which will be held on Apr. 16-17 in Chapel Hill, NC.

On the track, Jessica Cousins, Randi Hinton and Danielle Whaley will compete in the 100m dash, and Cousins, Hinton, Shakirah Rutherford, Chrsitina Smith and Whaley will represent the Lady Tigers in the 200m dash. Rutherford and Silja Ulfarsdottir will contest the 400m dash and Sudati Masasu and Patrice McMillan will run in the 800m race. Jennifer Barton and Casey Phillips will compete in the 1500m run. In the 100m hurdles, Clemson will be represented by Marquita Dortch, Christina Moore, Jelyn Quick and Christina Smith. Dortch and Quick will double in the 400m hurdles. The Lady Tigers’ 4x100m relay team of Ulfarsdottir, Rutherford, Hinton and Cousins will also compete on Saturday as the Lady Tigers look to improve on their regional qualifying time of 45.45.

Christina Moore, Gisele Oliveira, Michelle Rogers will represent Clemson. Moultrie, Nyenke and Rogers will also compete in the triple jump. In the throws, Allison Bradshaw and Della Clark will compete in the shot put, while Clark, and Krystal Woods contest the discus. Bradshaw, Clark and Woods will compete in the hammer throw, and Pickett and Woods will compete in the javelin throw.

Six Lady Tigers have already qualified for the 2004 East Region Championships. Jessica Cousins posted a qualifying time of 45.45 at the Clemson Invitational, and the Lady Tigers’ 4x400m relay team of Randi Hinton and Shakirah Rutherford clocked a qualifying time of 3:41.89 also at the Clemson Invitational. Sara Young is a field event qualifier for the Lady Tigers, clearing 12’5.5″ in the pole vault.
