Clemson Women’s Track And Field Finishes Second At ACC Indoor Championships

CHAPEL HILL, NC – The Clemson women’s track and field team finished fifth at the ACC Indoor Championships held this weekend at the Eddie Smith Field House. The Lady Tigers tallied 55.5 points in the team race, while ACC newcomer Miami (FL) won its first conference crown. Clemson senior Gisele Oliveira captured her second consecutive indoor triple jump title while setting a new Eddie Smith Field House record with a NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 43’9.75″. Silja Ulfarsdottir and the Lady Tigers’ 4x400m relay team posted runner-up honors on the last day of the indoor conference meet.

On the track, Randi Hinton scored for the Lady Tigers in the 60m dash with a seventh-place finish and time of 7.69. In the 200m finals, Ulfarsdottir led Clemson with a fourth-place finish and season-best time of 24.32. Jessica Cousins placed fifth with her season-best time of 24.32 and Hinton crossed the finish line in 24.77 to place seventh. Ulfarsdottir was the Lady Tigers’ top finisher in the 400m dash with a third-place finish and provisional qualifying time of 54.10. Cousins finished with a time of 56.59 to place seventh and Jennifer Barton clocked a career-best time of 10:28.45 in the 3000m and the Lady Tigers’ 4x400m relay team of Ulfarsdottir, Hinton, Hill and Tia Perry finished as the runner-up with a provisional qualifying time of 3:41.02.

Oliveira was the Lady Tigers’ top finisher in the triple jump and became Clemson’s first two-time ACC Champion in the event. Michelle Rogers placed 10th in the triple jump with her mark of 39’11.25″ and Renata Miyamoto finished in 12th place with a leap of 38’9.5″. In the pole vault, Sara Young cleared 11’9.75″ to tie for sixth place, while Beth Jordan had a clearance of 11’3.75″ to finish in a tie for 10th place. Della Clark was a scorer for the Lady Tigers in the shot put, finishing eighth with a mark of 44’7.5″. Allison Bradshaw placed ninth in the shot put with her mark of 44’2.5″.

The Lady Tiger track and field team returns to action on March 5 at the Iowa State Last Chance meet.
