Clemson Women’s Track And Field Completes Day One At NCAA East Region Championships

GAINESVILLE, FL – On the first day of the 2004 East Region Championships, the Lady Tigers highlights included the 4x100m relay team and Silja Ulfarsdottir in the 400m hurdles. Clemson’s 4x100m relay team of Silja Ulfarsdottir, Silja Ulfarsdottir won her heat with a time of 57.54 to automatically qualify for the finals. Ulfarsdottir’s time moves her into second on the Lady Tigers’ all-time list in the event and was the second-fastest time of the day. Other Lady Tigers in action on Friday included Jelyn Quick, Della Clark, Sara Young and Krystal Woods.

In the first running event of the day, the Lady Tigers’ 4x100m relay team of Silja Ulfarsdottir, Christina Smith, Randi Hinton and Jessica Cousins recorded a time of 45.60 to advance to Saturday’s finals. Christina Smith recorded a time of 59.32 to finish third in her heat and narrowly missed the finals cut with the 10th-fastest time of the day. Krystal Woods recorded a mark of 151’0″ in the discus throw to place 14th in the event.

The Lady Tigers resume competition at 1:00 PM on Saturday with the high jump, featuring Silja Ulfarsdottir will compete in the finals of the 400m hurdles at 7:30 PM and the 4x400m relay team of Ulfarsdottir, Smith, Cousins and Hinton will race at 9:00 PM.
