Clemson Women’s Tennis Defeats UNC Greensboro

Clemson, SC – The Clemson Tiger women’s tennis team opened their season Saturday afternoon with a victory over the Spartans of UNC Greensboro. The Tigers defeated UNC Greensboro by a score of 7-0.

Clemson junior Carminia Giraldo defeated Christine Weber of UNC Greensboro by a score of 6-1, 6-3, in the number one singles spot. At two singles, senior Tiger Christina Oldock was victorious over Lindsey Peel, 6-1, 7-6 (7-0). Clemson’s Ana Savitskaya topped Spartan Carlin Kannan at number three singles, 6-3, 6-2.

In the number four and five singles spots, Clemson sophomores Laurence Jayet and Ana Stiglic beat their UNC Greensboro opponents Amanda Eutzler, 6-1, 6-2, and Natalie Cherry, 6-3, 6-3, respectively. Freshman Tiger Ashlea Bowen finished up the singles sweep for Clemson with a win over Kristen Adamson, 6-3, 6-3, in the six singles spot.

In doubles action, the Tigers won two out of the three matches in order to earn the doubles point for Clemson. The team of Clemson juniors Savitskaya and Giraldo topped UNC Greensboro’s Cherry and Kannan, 8-3, in the number one doubles spot. At two doubles, Tigers Oldock and Jayet defeated their Spartan opponents Eutzler and Adamson, 8-3. Bowen and Sunnie Harmon of Clemson fell to UNC Greensboro’s Weber and Peel, 8-4 at number three doubles.

Clemson (1-0) will be in action against the College of Charleston Friday, January 26 at 1:30 PM in Clemson. UNC Greensboro (0-1) will head to Chapel Hill to take on North Carolina Thursday, January 25 at 6 PM.
