Clemson Women’s Swimming and Diving Finishes Thursday Morning Session

College Park, MD- The Clemson University Women’s Swimming and Diving team completed session two of the 2006 ACC Championships Thursday morning. The morning session was highlighted by Kim Routh and Cassy LaRussa in the 500 freestyle. Routh swam a time of 4:48.14 to earn her the third seed for tonight’s finals. LaRussa will join Routh in the finals as she is seeded fifth with a time of 4:50.04, her season best.

Also for Clemson in the 500 freestyle was Toni Kroll. Kroll came from the third heat out of seven to get into the consolation finals with a time of 4:56.69. This was her fastest time of the season by over 12 seconds, and got her the 15th seed tonight. Freshman Summer O’Donnell claimed the 17th spot, Nichole Carlton was 21st, and Whitney Sandison was 25th for Clemson in the 500. In the 50 free, the Lady Tigers made another strong showing. Rachel Regone sprinted her way to a third seed with a time of 23.00, an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time. Michelle Parkhurst (23.60), and Ashley Shafer (23.71) will be in the consolation finals of the event as they are ninth and 14th after the morning session, respectively. Sarah Cefalu was the top Lady Tiger finisher in the 200 IM as she recorded a time of 2:07.51. Ashley Clay was the only other Clemson swimmer in the event, touching the wall with a season best time of 2:09.68.

The Lady Tigers will compete in the finals of the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, 1-meter diving, and 200 freestyle relay tonight starting at 7 pm.
