CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s soccer team defeated Presbyterian College by a score of 4-0 Friday night in its home and season opener at Historic Riggs Field. With the win, the Tigers are 1-0 on the season, while the Blue Hose drop to 0-1.

After a scoreless first half of play, Clemson came out strong in the second half, scoring for the first time just 17 seconds in to the half. Freshman forward Hailey Karg put the Tigers on the board with her first career goal, which was assisted by sophomore forward Maddy Elder.

Elder scored Clemson’s second goal, an unassisted score in the 64th minute of play. Freshman forward Jackie Dutton scored the first goal of her Tiger career in the 71st minute, which was also unassisted.

Forward Maggie Murphy was the third freshman to score for Clemson on the night, concluding the Tiger offensive effort with a goal in the 82nd minute. Murphy was assisted on the goal by freshman midfielder Vanessa Laxgang.

Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Arnold posted seven saves in the game, and recorded the first shutout of her Tiger career.

“We are always happy to get a result, especially in our home opener,” said Head Coach Hershey Strosberg. “After a good preseason, it was nice to get out here and play an opponent and be able to measure where we are.

“It took longer than we wanted to settle the game, but once we scored that first goal, everyone took a deep breath. With a young and not-as-experienced team, that is a lesson we are going to have to learn. This game gave us a lot to go on in order to sharpen up and prepare for Sunday.”

The Tigers will play host to Jacksonville this Sunday, August 22 at 1:00 PM at Historic Riggs Field. The game will be broadcast live for free on ClemsonTigers.com via TigerCast.
