Clemson Women’s Golfers Second after First Round of Furman Invitational

GREENVILLE, SC – Ashlan Ramsey, Sloan Shanahan and McKenzie Talbert all scored rounds of even par or better and rank among the top 10 players after the first round of the Furman Invitational. Clemson stands in second place as a team after the first round with a team score of 287.

Clemson trails GRU Augusta (formerly Augusta State) by just two shots. Furman and Wisconsin are tied for third at two over par 290 and Florida State is fifth at 294.

Second round action begins at 9 AM on Saturday with a shotgun start. Scores will be posted on golfstat.com.

Ramsey is tied for the individual lead after the first round with a four under par 68. The freshman from Milledgeville, GA had a clean round with four birdies and no bogeys. She had three of her birdies on the front nine where she shot a 33. Ramsey is tied for the lead with Eunice Yi of GRU Augusta.

Shanahan shot a three under par 69 on Friday. Her day did not start well with a double bogey on the par four first hole. But, she responded with three consecutive birdies to get under par quickly. She finished with a 34 on the front and a 35 on the back to shoot a three-under par 69 and rank in a tie for third place in the individual race.

Talbert shot an even par 72 on Friday. She had a balanced day with four birdies and four bogeys and is in a tie for 10th after 36 holes.

Lauren Salazar also had a double bogey on the first hole and had a double on the 12th, but played the other 16 holes at just two over par in shooting a 78. Jessica Hoang was one shot higher at 79. Taylor Ramsey, making her first appearance in a Clemson uniform, played as an individual, and also shot a 78.
