Clemson Women’s Golf Team to Compete in Lady Paladin Invitational

CLEMSON, SC – J.T. Horton‘s women’s golf team will compete in its second tournament of the 2013 fall season, the Lady Paladin Invitational, September 20-22. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be held at the Furman Golf Club in Greenville, SC and will include 17 teams.

“We are excited to be competing this weekend,” said Horton. “The Furman Golf Club is a good golf course and it’s great to be able to compete this close to home. The team has been working hard to get ready for this tournament. We look forward to having lots of orange out there supporting us!”

Teams in the tournament field include fellow ACC member Florida State and Texas A&M from the SEC.  Furman, Wofford and Coastal Carolina will also compete along with East Carolina, Georgia Regents, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, Nova Southeastern, Samford, Southern Miss, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington and Wisconsin.

The Lady Tigers are coming off an impressive finish in their first ever tournament, the Cougar Classic, held September 8-10 at Yeamans Hall in Hanahan, SC.  The team finished in second place, one stroke behind the University of Florida. The 20-team field included five teams that finished in the top 25 at the NCAA national tournament last year and 12 teams that played in the NCAA regionals a year ago.

Three Clemson players finished in the top 20 individually at the Cougar Classic, including Sloan Shanahan and Ashlan Ramsey who were co-individual runner-ups, along with Brittany Marchand of NC State.  The Lady Tigers’ Lauren Salazar finished tied for 19th individually.

Horton will keep the same lineup for the Lady Paladin Invitational – freshmen Ashlan Ramsey, Sloan Shanahan, McKenzie Talbert and Jessica Hoang, and redshirt freshman Lauren Salazar. Redshirt freshman Taylor Ramsey will compete in the tournament as an individual and will tee off at 11:06 AM on Friday.

The Lady Tigers will tee off Friday on the first hole beginning at 9 AM and will be paired with Florida State and Furman.  Saturday will be a shotgun start beginning at 9 AM, and tee times will be based off of Friday’s results. Live scores will be posted each day on golfstat.com.
