Clemson Women’s Cross Country Finishes Third At the WCU Invitational

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Clemson women’s cross country team opened its 2001 season with a third-place finish at the Western Carolina Invitational. Western Carolina won the meet with 39 points, South Carolina was second (46 pts.) and the Lady Tigers were third (70 pts.). Cumberland, Mars Hill, Brevard, Anderson, Converse and Oglethorpe completed the field.

Among Division I competitors, sophomore Renee Keydoszius (Birmingham, AL) led the Lady Tigers with a fourth-place finish (19:43) while fellow sophomore Kristi Toothman was fifth in 19:44. Senior Perry Fields (Columbia, SC) finished 11th for Clemson with a time of 20:07, and freshman Laura Ann Rukat (Walhalla, SC) was 16th (21:02). Sophomore Evan Ross (Travelers Rest, SC) was 22nd in 22:10, Shannon Day was 23rd with a time of 23:17 and sophomore Tiffany Charles (Roswell, GA) completed the course in 23:56 to finish 24th.

The Lady Tigers will compete at the Gardner-Webb Invitational in Boiling Springs, NC, on Sept. 7.
