Clemson Women’s Cross Country Captures Third-Straight Team Victory

Charlotte, NC — The Clemson women’s cross country team raced to their third straight team victory Friday at the Charlotte Invitational. The Tigers had three of their top five participants turn in new season best times in the 5K. Junior Kim Ruck was the top finisher for the Tigers, finishing second overall with a time of 16:52.2 behind Anna Nosenko of Wake Forest, who won the race with a time of 16:38.4.

ACC teams claimed the top three spots in the field of 25. The Tigers tallied 43 points, edging out ACC rivals Virginia Tech and Wake Forest who finished second and third with 51 and 66 points.

Alyssa Kulik turned in another solid performance for the Tigers on Friday, finishing second on the team and sixth overall. The junior from Mauldin, SC finished with a new season best time of 17:29.1. Stephanie Buffo raced to an overall seventh place finish and was third on the team. The senior also finished with a new season best time of 17:38.8. Elyse Borisko (17:53.4) and Sarah Turman (18:05.9), Clemson’s top two finishers at the season opener, were the final two scorers for the Tigers. Borisko also turned in a new season best time.

In the men’s 8K, Clemson finished fourth out of 22 teams with 123 points behind ACC rival Virginia Tech and VMI, who finished second and third, respectively. Conference foe Wake Forest captured the men’s title with 38 points.

Freshman Ty McCormack won his second individual title of the season and established a new season best in the 8K, finishing with a time of 24:37.4. McCormack finished ahead of Wake Forest’s Tom Divinnie and Western Carolina’s Josey Weaver.

Senior Chris Slate was the second place finisher for the Tigers and finished 23rd overall. Slate also established a new season best, turning in a time of 25:43.8. Junior Nic Tones was the third place finisher for the Tigers and finished 24th overall. This was his first race of the season. Rounding out the Tigers’ scoring effort was freshman Nathan Hendershot (26:08.6) and sophomore Blake Kennedy (26:19.6).

The Tigers return to action on October 16 in Terre Haute, IN for the Pre-NCAA Nationals.
