CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s basketball team will hold the Orange and White Scrimmage on Tuesday, October 27 at 7:00 pm in Littlejohn Coliseum. The game will follow a welcoming dinner for Orange Brigade members at 5:30 pm. The Orange Brigade is a group made up of friends, family, university faculty and staff, members of the Clemson community and others interested in the women’s basketball team, and was formed to provide support for the Lady Tiger program.
Head Coach Cristy McKinney enters her fifth season at the helm of the program, improving on the previous season’s win total in three of the past four years. Mckinney’s bunch is led this season by Lele Hardy, a third-team All-ACC selection in 2008-09, and a All-ACC defensive selection the same season. Hardy needs 40 steals to gain the Clemson record, and 94 steals to enter the top 25 in NCAA history.
The Tigers return more than 80.0% of their scoring from a season ago, as well as 85% of rebounding, and 90% of three-pointers made. Clemson will look to seniors Hardy, April Parker, Christy Brown, and Sthefany Thomas and Kirstyn Wright to continue to grow their respective roles within the offense and defense.
Sophomores Shaniqua Pauldo and Lindsay Mason make up two of the post options. Pauldo showed flashes of greatness a season ago, when she registered 23 points in the ACC tournament win against Georgia Tech.
Freshman Keyrra Gillespie will see a lot of time at point guard and was hailed as a top 100 player and the #18 guard in the nation by Hoopgurlz. Gillespie will likely see major minutes as a true point guard in Clemson’s up-tempo attack.
The Lady Tigers will play host to Anderson University on November 2 at 7:00 pm in an exhibition before opening the 2009-10 season against Furman on Nov. 13 in a doubleheader with the men’s team.
