Clemson Women’s Basketball Team to Hold Chow 4 Yow Dinner and Pink Zone Game

Jan. 29, 2009

The Clemson women’s basketball team, led by Head Coach Cristy McKinney, is doing its part to help fight breast cancer, but the team needs your help. On Monday, February 16 at 6:30 PM, the Lady Tigers are hosting a fundraiser dinner called Chow 4 Yow with Coach McKinney. This dinner is part of an ACC initiative to raise money for breast cancer awareness in honor of Kay Yow, former N.C. State Head Women’s Basketball Coach who passed away January 24, 2009, and others affected by breast cancer.

The evening will include a silent auction that will feature items such as signed Clemson memorabilia, tickets to the 2009 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament in Greensboro, NC, and many other items, culminating with a one-on-one dinner with Coach McKinney at Calhoun Corners. Tickets to this event are $40, and more information including a ticket request form can be found on www.clemsontigers.com by visiting the women’s basketball page and clicking on the Chow 4 Yow logo on the right hand side, or by e-mailing allisog@clemson.edu. All of the money raised from this effort will be donated to the Kay Yow Foundation.

All Clemson fans are encouraged to be a part of this initiative. The dinner will be held in the West Zone Club at Memorial Stadium on the Clemson campus. Fans can purchase tickets to the event individually, or find a few friends and fill a table with Lady Tiger supporters. Chow 4 Yow is a unique way to celebrate the achievements of a truly inspirational figure in the world of sports. But more importantly, it is also a way to honor Coach Yow and her desire to find a cure for breast cancer. Coach Yow understood that current research might not save her life, but her hope was that continued research would save lives in the future.

“The success of this initiative means a lot to me personally,” said Coach McKinney, “as I had the privilege to play for Kay Yow at N.C. State. She was my coach, my mentor, and my friend for 34 years.”

Please join the Lady Tiger family for this special evening.

Also, all of those in attendance at this dinner will receive free admission to the Lady Tigers’ Pink Zone game on February 19 at 7:00 PM versus Florida State sponsored by Tigertown Graphics and Firehouse Subs. Fans can make a pledge per Lady Tiger free throw made during the game, or make a flat donation. More information and pledge sheets are available at Guest Services inside Littlejohn Coliseum. Also, fans will be able to purchase special Pink Zone t-shirts at the game. As fans enter the coliseum they will have a chance to purchase special In Memory Of/In Honor Of cards for $1 to be displayed around the concourse. All of the money raised from this event will also be donated to the Kay Yow Foundation.

Any breast cancer survivors that would like to be recognized at the game can send their contact information (name, address, city, state, zip code, daytime phone number, e-mail address, and number of years a survivor) to allisog@clemson.edu. Fans in attendance are encouraged to wear pink to fill Littlejohn with a pink spirit!

Don’t miss out on these events, and be sure to have a heart and do your part to support the fight against breast cancer!
