Clemson Women’s Basketball 2007-08 Schedule Announced

Aug. 23, 2007

CLEMSON, SC – The 2007-08 Clemson women’s basketball schedule has been announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John Swofford and Lady Tiger Head Coach Cristy McKinney on Wednesday afternoon. Clemson’s upcoming slate features dates against 15 teams that earned post-season bids last year as well as 14 contests in their home arena of Littlejohn Coliseum.

“We are excited about the 2007-08 schedule,” McKinney said. “We feel the non-conference portion of our schedule provides a good balance of competition to help our young team get ready for the tough ACC. Obviously highlights for us in the non-conference are games with Michigan State, in the first ACC/Big Ten Challenge, Vanderbilt, Arkansas and of course, South Carolina.”

In an exciting non-conference match-up, the 2007-08 schedule includes a trip to East Lansing, MI for late November game against Michigan State in the inaugural ACC/Big Ten Women’s Challenge. The game will be the Lady Tigers’ first televised contest of the season, as it will be aired on the Big 10 Television Network. Clemson will also travel to the state of Colorado for the just the second time in history for the Coors Classic over the Thanksgiving weekend. The event will be held in Boulder on the campus of the University of Colorado. The Last Tigers will face the Rice Owls in the first game of the tournament, a contest that will pit McKinney against a team she coached for 12 seasons. The tournament field also includes the host Buffalos and the Sienna Saints.

Clemson will kick off its season on Nov. 9 when the Lady Tigers play host to Maine for their earliest opener in history. Also on the home slate are dates against Western Carolina, Duquesne, James Madison and Charleston Southern. In other non-conference action, Clemson will play three Southeastern Conference teams, including perennial top-25 team Vanderbilt and in-state rival South Carolina at Littlejohn Coliseum. The Lady Tigers will then travel to Arkansas in early December and will also face Chattanooga, Furman, Dayton and Charlotte on the road.

This year’s squad will be tested early in the ACC season as Clemson opens at Maryland on Jan. 6. The Lady Tigers will then play host to Miami in their conference home opener on Jan. 10 before a Jan. 14 televised contest at Wake Forest. The game will air on the ACC’s regional network package, including Fox Sports Net South, Comcast SportsNet, Fox Sports Net Florida and the New England Sports Network. Clemson’s game against Boston College on Jan. 28 will also be televised on the regional networks, which reach approximately 24 million households.

Along with their home dates against Miami and Boston College, the Lady Tigers will welcome Wake Forest, Florida State, Georgia Tech Duke and NC State to Littlejohn Coliseum during the season. They will then travel to Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Virginia, as well as return dates with Georgia Tech and the regular season finale at Florida State.

This year’s ACC Tournament will again be held at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, NC. Opening round action will begin on Thursday, Mar. 6 with the championship game being played on Sunday, Mar. 9.
