Clemson Women’s 4x400m Relay Team Posts Provisional Qualifying Time At Kentucky Invitational

LEXINGTON, KY – The Clemson women’s track and field team completed competition at the Kentucky Invitational on Saturday at the Nutter Fieldhouse. The Lady Tigers’ relay teams turned in strong performances, as the 4x400m relay team recorded a NCAA provisional qualifying performance, and the 4x800m relay team set the school record in that event. Other notable performances included runner-up honors in the pole vault, 200m and 400m by Sara Young, Sierra Hill and Silja Ulfarsdottir, respectively.

In the running events, Randi Hinton placed seventh in the 60m witha time of 7.66 in the finals. Ulfarsdottir led nine Lady Tigers in the 200m dash, finishing second with a time of 24.31. Randi Hinton placed eighth in 24.65. Freshman Sierra Hill earned runner-up honors in the 400m with a time of 55.62, and Sudati Masasu posted a time of 2:15.15 en route to a fifth-place finish in the 800m. Casey Phillips was Clemson’s top finisher in the mile run, placing ninth with a time of 5:07.65. Jennifer Barton competed in the 3000m, finishing 20th with a time of 10:45.76. In the 60m hurdles, Ulfarsdottir was once again the top finisher for the Lady Tigers with her sixth-place finish (8.69). Jelyn Quick placed ninth in the high hurdles with a time of 8.80 (8.67 prelims), and Polly Hardy was 10th with a time of 8.85. Clemson entered three teams in the 4x400m relay, with the “A” team finishing second with a provisional qualifying time of 3:39.61. The Lady Tigers’ “B” team was fifth in 3:51.89 and the “C” team brought home a 12th-place finish with a time of 4:07.29. The school-record setting 4x800m relay team turned in a time of 9:13.21, easily breaking the previous record of 9:32.27 set in 2000.

Sara Young and Beth Jordan tied their personal-best indoor performances with marks of 11’11.75″ and 11’5.75″ to earn second and fourth-place honors in the pole vault, respectively. Allison Bradshaw posted a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 44’0.5″, while Della Clark was seventh with a mark of 42’8.75″. Clark recorded a personal-best effort in the weight throw, with a mark of 58’2.5″ to finish seventh.

The Lady Tigers return to action next weekend as they host the Clemson Invitational, Jan. 21-22.
