Clemson Wins Eight Events on Day One of FSU Relays

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson claimed eight event titles on day one of the FSU Relays at Mike Long Track in Tallahassee, FL.  Both the Tiger men and women won four apiece, including a sweep of the 4×100 relays, to highlight the action.

Both 4x1s were victorious for the Tigers on Friday.  The women led off with a time of 43.95.  The lineup consisted of Stormy Kendrick, Marlena Wesh, Dezerea Bryant and Brianna Rollins.  The men followed with a time of 39.84 and won comfortably.  The men’s lineup consisted of Reggie Lewis, Warren Fraser, Brunson Miller and Tevin Hester.

Miller blew away the competition in the men’s 400 dash, clocking an opening time of 46.24.  His time ranks No. 8 in the Clemson record books.  The Tiger women took five of the top seven spots in the 400 dash, led by Wesh in first with a time of 53.55.  Rollins was third in 53.93.

Keni Harrison claimed the top position in the women’s 100 hurdles.  The sophomore from Clayton, NC posted a time of 13.53 against a strong headwind (-2.3 meters per second).  Freshman star Nnenya Hailey was fourth (14.09).  Elijah Britton was the best finisher among three Tigers in the men’s 110 hurdles.  He posted a time of 14.41 and placed fourth.

In the distance events, Ty McCormack won the 3000-meter steeplechase with a season-opening time of 8:55.21.  Aaron Ramirez and Brianna Blanton earned third-place finishes in the 1500 meters.  Ramirez ran 3:50.51 in the men’s race and Blanton 4:27.67 on the women’s side, the ninth-best time in the Tiger record books.

Lauren Terstappen won the women’s pole vault Friday.  The junior from Phoenixville, PA cleared the bar at 13’1.75” on her second attempt.  Jameel Abdul-Mateen won the men’s long jump, converting on a leap of 24’5.75”.  Jasmine Brunson and Mimi Land were second and fourth in the women’s long jump.  Brunson hit a leap of 19’11.5” and Land was not far behind at 19’4”.
