Clemson Volleyball Travels To Virginia and Maryland

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson volleyball team will conclude its ACC regular season schedule with a trip to Maryland and Virginia this weekend. The Tigers will play the Terrapins on Friday at 7:00, then travel to Virginia on Saturday for a 6:00 p.m. first serve.

Clemson enters this weekend’s matches with a 9-15 overall record and a 3-11 mark in conference play. The Tigers defeated Virginia 3-0 at home on Oct. 12, but lost to Maryland, 3-0, at Jervey Gym on Oct. 13. Clemson is 24-9 all-time against Virginia, and 8-5 against the Cavaliers on the road. The Tigers hold a 23-19 edge over Maryland, and are 9-8 against the Terrapins away from Jervey Gym. Clemson is coming off a 3-1 win over the Furman Paladins, and the Tigers have won three of their last four matches.

The Tigers are led by Jodi Steffes who has a team-best 334 kills with a 3.84 kills per game average. She is second on the team in service aces with 30, in hitting percentage with .295 and in digs with 221 (2.54 dpg). Jessi Betcher has handed out 872 assists (10.02 apg), and also leads the team in digs with 222 (2.55 dpg). Lori Ashton leads the team in blocks with 86 (19 solo) and in hitting percentage (.303). Ashton ranks third in kills (214) while Ryane Beasley has 245 kills to rank second on the team in that category.

Virginia is led by Jenny Harmon who has a team-high 192 kills (2.59 kpg) and also leads the Cavaliers in service aces with 23. Abby Whittenburg has dished out 405 assists (6.23 apg), and Lily Phillips has handed out 394 assists (6.79 apg). Whitney Ashcraft has a team-high 166 digs (2.16 dpg) while Simona Kuipers has 72 blocks (nine solo).

Carey Brennan leads Maryland with 291 kills (3.59 kpg) and in defensive saves with 250 (3.19). Lindsay Davey has handed out 973 assists (11.72 apg), while Lynnsy Jones has 40 service aces. Willette Dority leads the Terrapins in blocks with 75 total (nine solo).
