Clemson Volleyball To Take On #19 South Carolina

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson will play host to in-state rival South Carolina Wednesday night at Jervey Gym. Under current head coach Jolene Jordan Hoover, the Tigers have won four of the last eight meetings, including three at home (1999, 1997, 1993).

South Carolina enters Wednesday’s match with a #19 ranking and a 10-2 record. The Gamecocks most recently defeated Purdue, Miami and Illinois State in straight games to capture the Miami/Best Western Classic title in Oxford, OH.

Cally Plummer leads the Gamecocks in kills with 158 and a 3.85 kpg average, and she also leads the team in service aces with 19. Megan Hosp is averaging 12.54 assists per game (514 total), and also has a team-best 113 digs. Niece Curry leads South Carolina in blocks with 38 total (six solo) and a 0.97 bpg average.

In the last meeting with South Carolina, Clemson lost a 3-0 decision in Columbia. Jodi Steffes led the Tigers with five kills and 10 digs while Jessi Betcher tallied eight assists with six digs. Kiki Dallao also had five kills with a service ace and six digs. South Carolina’s Cally Plummer led all attackers with ten kills, seven digs, two service aces and six block assists. Megan Hosp tallied a match-high 28 assists with seven digs while Sarah Heri had a match-high 12 digs.

Senior Jodi Steffes leads the Tiger hitters with 196 kills and a 4.00 kills per game average, while freshman Jessi Betcher has handed out 574 assists (11.71 apg) and is second on the team in digs with 131.

Clemson enters the match with a 5-8 mark, but is coming off a 3-0 (30-21, 30-24, 30-17) sweep of ACC rival NC State.
