Clemson Volleyball To Play Host To Virginia and Maryland

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson volleyball team (5-9, 1-5 ACC) will play host to ACC rivals Virginia and Maryland this weekend at Jervey Gym. The Tigers’ contest against the Cavaliers is slated for 7:00 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, Clemson will take on Maryland at 6:00 p.m.

Senior Jodi Steffes currently leads the Tiger hitters with 216 kills and a 4.08 kills per game average. Steffes also has a team-best 143 digs (2.70) and 22 service aces. Junior Jessi Betcher has a team-best 605 assists and an 11.42 assists per game average while freshman Lori Ashton leads the Tiger blockers with 41 blocks (eight solo).

Scouting Virginia Virginia is 5-8 overall and 1-5 in the ACC entering this week’s schedule. The Cavaliers are on a four-game slide after defeating NC State.

Clemson holds a 24-8 series lead against Virginia, and the Tigers are 15-3 against the Cavaliers under Jolene Jordan Hoover. In Jervey Gym, Clemson is 12-3in its matches against Virginia.

Paige Davis leads Virginia with 120 kills and a 2.73 kills per game average. She also has a team-high 15 service aces and 102 digs (2.32 dpg average). Simona Kuipers has recorded 44 blocks (five solo), while Abby Whittenberg has 237 assists (7.65 assists per game).

Scouting Maryland Maryland enters this week with a 7-7 overall record and a 3-3 mark in ACC play. The Terrapins have defeated Virginia, Florida State and Duke so far this year.

The Tigers hold a 22-19 edge over the Terrapins in the all-time series. Clemson is 12-6 against Maryland under Jolene Jordan Hoover, and hold an 8-5 advantage in the all-time series in Jervey Gym.

Carey Brennan and Maria diLivio lead the Terrapin hitters with 180 kills each, and Brennan has tallied a team-best 154 digs. Lindsay Davey has handed out 573 assists (11.46 apg), while Amanda Ayros has served up 25 aces. Ayros also leads the team in blocks with 48 (three solo).
