Clemson Volleyball to Play Host to Georgia

The Clemson Tiger volleyball team will play host to its first home match of the 2002 season on Wednesday, Sept. 4 against the Georgia Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. in Jervey Gym.

The Tigers have a 0-3 overall record entering the match after opening their season at the Howdy’s Pepperdine Classic in Malibu, CA. Clemson lost its season opener to #8 Pepperdine 3-0 and was defeated 3-0 by Michigan on the second day of the tournament. In the final game of the tournament, the Tigers lost a close match to South Florida 3-2.

Clemson is 10-28 against Georgia, and 4-5 under head coach Jolene Jordan Hoover. The Tigers have won the last four meetings with the Bulldogs, including a 3-1 win last year at Georgia.

Georgia enters the match with a 2-2 record, having lost to Wichita State 2-3 and Miami (FL) 1-3 and defeating New Mexico 3-0 in the Wichita State Tournament. The Bulldogs also picked up a win (3-2) at home against Stephen F. Austin.

Last year the Tigers defeated the Bulldogs 3-1 (30-24, 30-21, 28-30, 32-30) in Athens, GA. Three Clemson players recorded double-doubles, including Ryane Beasley who tallied 16 kills and 18 digs. Georgia was led by Luresa Forsythe who posted 18 kills and 11 digs

Admission to all Clemson home volleyball matches at Jervey Gym is free to the public.
