Clemson Volleyball To Play Host To Duke and Wake Forest

The Clemson volleyball team will play host to Duke and Wake Forest this weekend in Jervey Gym. The Tigers will take on the Blue Devils on Friday at 7:00 p.m., and then play host to the Demon Deacons at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

On Friday night, the Clemson Elementary jump rope group will perform between game two and three, and then on Saturday the Tigers will honor Jessi Betcher, Clemson’s all-time leader in assists and assists per game, on Senior Day.

The Tigers enter this weekend with a 16-13 overall record and 7-7 mark in conference play. The Tigers are led by sophomore Jessi Betcher has dished out 1,370 assists for a 12.12 per game average, and leads the team in digs with 349 and a 3.09 digs per game average. Freshman Carly Hill has served up a team-best 42 aces, and junior Lindsey Abbott has recorded 200 digs this season.

Entering this weekend’s match, Duke is 22-7 overall and 10-4 in ACC play, after splitting last weekend’s matches with NC State (3-0) and North Carolina (0-3). Katie Gilman leads the Blue Devils with 283 kills and a 3.29 kills per game average, while Jill Sonne is second on the team in kills with 262. Sonne has served up a team-best 53 aces for a 0.56 per game average and is second on the team in digs with 290. Rachel Vander Griend has posted 112 blocks (22 solo), and Krista Dill is second on the team with 100 blocks (21 solo). Stephanie Istvan has handed out 779 assists, and Arielle Linderman has tallied 419 assists. Josie Weymann has posted a team-best 327 digs this season for a 3.41 per game average.

Clemson is 14-24 all-time against the Blue Devils, but hold an 11-10 mark under head coach Jolene Jordan Hoover. Duke is one of two ACC schools that holds a winning record (8-6) against the Tigers in Jervey Gym.

Wake Forest is 13-15 overall and 6-8 in ACC play, after defeating NC State last weekend 3-0, but losing to North Carolina 1-3. Kim Stern leads the Demon Deacons with 271 kills and a 2.98 kills per game average. Stern has posted a team-best 80 (20 solo) blocks this season for a 0.88 per game average. Valerie Rydberg has recorded 287 kills with 291 digs and a 2.83 digs per game average, while Sara Beth DeLisle has recorded 227 kills and 224 digs. Rydberg has served up a team-best 45 aces for a 0.44 per game average. Ashlee Phillips has handed out 1,169 assists for an 11.81 assists per game average and has tallied 221 digs.

The Tigers boast a 14-6 all-time record over the Demon Deacons, and are 5-4 against Wake Forest in Jervey Gym. Under head coach Jolene Jordan Hoover, Clemson has posted an 8-5 mark against the Demon Deacons.
