CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson volleyball team will play host to 15th-ranked North Carolina at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1 in Jervey Gym. The Tigers look to extend their 10-match home winning streak, dating back to Nov. 6, 2001. Tuesday night’s match will be T-shirt night, with the first 500 fans in attendance receiving free T-shirts.
The Tigers enter the match with an 11-6 overall record and a 2-0 mark in conference play. Clemson opened the ACC season with two road wins, defeating Virginia and Maryland over the weekend. The Tigers downed Virginia 3-1 (33-31, 27-30, 30-21, 30-28) on Friday night, and won a five-game thriller over Maryland (25-30, 30-27, 21-30, 30-24, 15-11) on Saturday. With the victories, the Tigers extend their winning streak to seven matches.
Lori Ashton leads Clemson with 239 kills and a .436 hitting percentage. Junior Marija Zoric is second on the team with a .334 hitting percentage and leads the team at the net with 66 blocks (14 solo). Senior Jessi Betcher has recorded a team-best 213 digs and has handed out 774 assists. Ryane Beasley is second on the team in kills with 209 and freshman Carly Hill has served up a team-high 30 aces.
The Tar Heels are 13-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play, with a 3-0 victory over NC State last weekend. Laura Greene leads the team with 186 kills, a 4.04 kills per game average and 172 digs. Eve Rackham has handed out 547 assists and has 120 digs on the season. Holly Strauss has tallied 56 total blocks (seven solo), while Malaika Underwood has tallied 47 blocks (one solo).
Admission is free to all home volleyball matches in Jervey Gym.
