Clemson Volleyball to Hold Orange and White Scrimmage Saturday

Aug. 20, 2010

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s volleyball team will host its annual Orange and White scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 21 at 1:00 pm in Jervey Gymnasium. Tiger fans will get a glimpse of the 2010 squad, which features returning AVCA Honorable Mention All-American Sandra Adeleye.

The team will play three sets, with the first two to 25, and the third to 15. Team posters and schedule cards will be available and admission is free of charge.

The Tigers have made three straight NCAA Tournament appearances, tying a school mark. Clemson opens the season on August 27 at 7:00 pm when they play host to Jacksonville in the Big Orange Bash.

Youth is the name of the game for the team this season, as five freshman and eight sophomores pepper the roster. Cansu Ozdemir, the team’s captain, is the lone senior on the team, and is gunning to be the first player in Clemson history to make an NCAA appearance in all four years of her career.

Despite the youth, four of the top five leaders in kills from 2009 return in sophomores Adeleye (297), Natalie Patzin (287), and Alexa Rand (240), as well as Ozdemir (133).

Rand and Adeleye were both named to the 2010 Preseason All-ACC team by the league coaches. The pair formed one of the best middle combinations in the ACC in 2009, with both ranking in the top four in the league in hitting percentage and blocking.
