CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson volleyball team welcomes in-state rival South Carolina to Jervey Gym on Sept. 13 for a 7:00 PM match. The contest will be the fourth One Clemson …Solid Orange event for the 2005-06 school year. The Tigers enter the match with a 2-2 record, while the Gamecocks are 6-1 overall this season. Admission to the match is free to the public and the doors open at 5:00 PM. Fans are encouraged to wear orange to support the Tigers.

Rookie Jeannette Abbott is Clemson’s leading hitter with 63 kills in the Tigers’ 13 games. Abbott’s 26 kills against Georgia on Sept. 7 tied her for second in school history for kills by a freshman in a single match. Sophomore Brittany Ross trails the newcomer by just six kills with 57 total. Anna Vallinch has 78 defensive saves to lead the team, while Danielle Hepburn has a team-high 14 blocks.

South Carolina holds a 31-19 advantage over the Tigers in the series score. The Gamecocks won last year’s contest, 3-0, in Columbia, SC, but Clemson claimed the 2003 match, setting a Jervey Gym attendance record in the five-game contest.

Shonda Cole leads South Carolina with 108 kills in 24 games, while Lynae Vanden Hull has added 63. Nicole Miller has a team-high 31 blocks and Sarah Morgan has recorded a team-best 86 defensive saves for the Gamecocks.

Central Spirit is hosting a tailgate for all fans before the match. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be available in the parking lot adjacent to Jervey Gym beginning at 5:30 PM.
