CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson volleyball team is seeded sixth entering the 2003 ACC Tournament to be held Thursday-Saturday, Nov.20-23 in Orlando, FL at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex. The Tigers will face the number-three seed, Wake Forest, on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The winner of the Clemson-Wake Forest match will advance to the semifinals at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday to face the winner of the Maryland-Duke match.
The Tigers enter the tournament with a 17-15 overall record and 6-10 mark in conference games. The last time Clemson and the Demon Deacons met at the ACC Tournament was in 1981, a match in which the Tigers defeated Wake Forest 3-0. Clemson holds a 15-8 all-time record against the Demon Deacons and a 9-7 record under head coach Jolene Jordan Hoover.
Leslie Finn leads all Tiger hitters with 535 kills and a 4.39 kills per game average. She has tallied 331 digs this season with 32 service aces. Lori Ashton has recorded 414 kills with a team-best .283 average, while Liz Beckham has 351 kills and is third on the team with 327 digs. Ashton and Ryane Beasley lead the Tigers at the net with 140 and 145 blocks, respectively. Lindsey Abbott has tallied 483 digs with a 3.91 digs per game average and Carly Hill has served up a team-high 39 aces for Clemson. Stephanie Haskell has dished out 1,236 assists for an 11.04 assists per game average with 257 digs and 53 blocks.
Wake Forest enters Friday’s match with a 21-8 record and a 10-6 mark in league play, after defeating North Carolina and NC State last weekend. Valerie Rydberg leads the team with 387 kills and a 4.12 kills per game average. She has served up a team-best 68 aces with an 0.72 per game average and leads the team in digs with 333. Christy Williams has recorded 270 kills with a .362 hitting percentage and leads the team in blocks with 85. Erin Borhart has handed out 1,207 assists with a 12.07 assists per game average and is third on the team in digs with 245.
