Clemson Volleyball Sweeps Virginia

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson volleyball team swept Virginia 3-0 (30-24, 30-25, 30-21) Friday night at Jervey Gym. The Tigers improve to 6-9 overall and 2-5 in the ACC, while the Cavaliers fall to 5-9 overall and 1-6 in the league.

Clemson hit .281 for the match, and held Virginia to a .125 hitting percentage. The Tigers tallied seven team blocks (two solo) compared to the Cavaliers’ four team blocks (two solo). The Tigers served up seven aces, and Virginia had six aces on the night. Clemson tallied 52 defensive saves, and Virginia had 42 digs.

Clemson was paced by Ryane Beasley who tallied a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs. Beasley also had a match- and career-best .435 hitting percentage (13-3-23). Jodi Steffes added 11 kills and two block assists with a .364 hitting percentage, while Lori Ashton had ten kills and a .350 hitting percentage with three blocks (one solo), and Marija Zoric led the Tigers in blocks with four (one solo). Jessi Betcher handed out 22 assists with two aces, and Breezy Ambort had 14 assists. Leslie Finn recorded two more service aces for Clemson.

Jenny Harmon was the only Cavalier in double-figure kills with 13, and had a team-high nine digs. Shannon Boyle posted a team-best .318 hitting percentage with nine kills and one service ace. Simona Kuipers led the team in blocks with four (two solo), while Abby Whittenberg handed out a team-best 22 assists.

Clemson will play host to the University of Maryland Saturday night at 6:00 p.m.
