Clemson Volleyball Falls To North Carolina In ACC Tournament

TALLAHASSEE, FL – The Clemson volleyball team fell to the North Carolina Tar Heels in the ACC Volleyball Tournament in a heartbreaking 3-2 match. The Tigers claimed the first game 30-23, but North Carolina came back to win games two and three, 30-23 and 30-25. Clemson rebounded to win game four 30-25, then lost the decisive game 15-11. Clemson’s record stands at 10-17 overall while North Carolina improves to 21-7 on the season.

Three Tigers tallied double-doubles, but Clemson was led by redshirt freshman Ryane Beasley who tallied 20 kills with 19 digs. Freshman Leslie Finn added 17 kills and 12 digs with two service aces and a .333 (17-5-36) hitting percentage. Senior Jodi Steffes, who was named to the second team All-ACC earlier this week, posted 16 kills, 13 digs, four blocks (one solo) and a team-best .455 (16-1-33) hitting percentage. Freshman Lori Ashton contributed nine kills with a team-high six blocks (three solo). Jessie Betcher handed out 39 assists with 10 assists, while Breezy Ambort had 27 assists and Tami BySura also recorded 10 digs.

North Carolina’s Nicole Reis tallied a match-best 28 kills with 13 digs, while Laura Greene also posted a double-double with 22 kills and 21 digs. Eve Rackham tallied 41 assists, and Malaika Underwood added 23 assists with 10 digs and a team-high three blocks. Melissa Higgins served up a match-high four aces, and added eight digs.

Clemson concludes its 2001 season with a 7:00 p.m. match against the University of Kentucky on Nov. 23 at Jervey Gym. Admission to all Tiger home matches is free to the public.
