Clemson Volleyball Falls to Arizona State, 3-2

LUBBOCK, TX – The Clemson volleyball team fell to the Arizona State Sun Devils by a score of 3-2 on Saturday evening at the Texas Tech Invitational in Lubbock, TX. The Sun Devils won games one and two, 30-22 and 30-23. Clemson rallied to win game three 30-24, and game four 30-28, before falling in game five 15-12.

The Tigers were led by junior middle hitter Marija Zoric, who recorded a career-high 14 kills and hit .314 for the match. Zoric also tallied eight blocks (one solo) for Clemson and had two service aces. Sophomore Ryane Beasley posted 18 kills with three blocks (one solo) for the Tigers. Sophomore Stephanie Haskell led Clemson with a career-best 25 digs, while senior Jessi Betcher handed out 51 assists and recorded 14 digs. Leslie Finn and Lori Ashton tallied 13 and 14 kills, respectively for Clemson, while freshman Carly Hill recorded 10 digs.

For the Sun Devils, Juliana Escobar posted a match-high 21 kills with 15 digs. Julia Leddy added 18 kills with five blocks (two solo) for Arizona State. Kim Mehlhorn, Alicia Akporiaye and Jodi Smith reached double digits in kills for the Sun Devils. Cheryl Anglin dished out 67 assists and Courtney Blocher posted 16 digs to lead Arizona State.

The Tigers fall to 4-6 on the season, while the Sun Devils improve to 3-1. Clemson returns to action on Wednesday, September 18 to play host to Wofford at 7 PM in Jervey Gym. Admission is free to all home Clemson volleyball matches.
