Clemson Volleyball Downs Georgia State

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson volleyball team defeated the Georgia State Lady Panthers, 3-1 (26-30, 30-19, 30-18, 30-11), Tuesday night at Jervey Gym. The Tigers improve to 7-14 overall, while the Lady Panthers’ record stands at 20-8 overall.

Clemson got out to a slow start, dropping game one, 30-26. The Tigers rebounded in the final three games, winning 30-19, 30-18 and 30-11. Clemson hit .365 for the match, and held Georgia State to a .166 hitting percentage. The Tigers tallied 14 team blocks and recorded eight service aces, compared to the Lady Panthers’ four service aces.

Leslie Finn led all hitters with 21 kills and a .410 hitting percentage, while Jodi Steffes added a double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs. Steffes also hit .419 with six blocks. Lori Ashton recorded 12 kills and a .400 hitting percentage with a team-best eight blocks. Jessi Betcher handed out 34 assists, and Breezy Ambort added 17 more.

Maridelie Diaz led the Lady Panthers with 20 kills and a .310 hitting percentage, while Randi Van Dam added 10 kills and two service aces. Jennifer Rizzo tallied a team-best 14 digs, while April DeCoste posted a double-double with 45 assists and 10 digs.

Clemson returns to action Friday night at Jervey Gym as the Tigers play host to NC State. First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m. Admission is free for all Clemson volleyball home matches.
