Clemson Volleyball Defeats Maryland In A Five-Game Thriller

COLLEGE PARK, MD – The Clemson volleyball team defeated Maryland in a five-game thriller (25-30, 30-27, 21-30, 30-24, 15-11) Saturday night at Ritchie Coliseum. Clemson improves to 11-6 overall and 2-0 in the ACC, while Maryland falls to 11-6 and 0-2 in the conference. With the win, Clemson extends its winning streak to seven games.

“This was a big road trip for us,” said head coach Jolene Jordan Hoover. “It was great to get two road wins this weekend, as well as starting off 2-0 in the conference.”

The Tigers were led by Lori Ashton with a career-high 24 kills, a match-high .404 hitting percentage and two blocks. Sophomore Leslie Finn recorded a double-double with 17 kills and 15 digs, while junior Marija Zoric tallied nine kills and six blocks (two solo). Sophomore Ryane Beasley also posted double-digit figures with 13 kills and 13 digs. Senior Jessi Betcher recorded a match-high 62 assists and 22 digs.

Lynnsy Jones led the Terrapins with 24 kills and a .316 hitting percentage. Jennifer Dewalt posted 18 kills and three blocks, while Amanda Ayres tallied 12 kills and three blocks. Lindsay Davey handed out 60 assists and recorded 15 digs. Stephanie Smith led the Terrapins at the net with six blocks.

The Tigers will play host to the University of North Carolina on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 7:00 p.m. in Jervey Gym. Free t-shirts will be given to the first 200 fans in attendance. Admission is free to all home volleyball matches in Jervey Gym
