Clemson Volleyball Defeats Auburn, 3-0

CLEMSON, SC — The Clemson volleyball team, ranked 33rd nationally, defeated Auburn, 15-4, 15-11, 15-11 on Friday night in Jervey Gym in the first match of the Big Orange Bash. The loss was just the second of the season for Auburn.

Clemson out hit Auburn .423 to .100 in the first game to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Junior middle hitter Cindy Stern helped Clemson to the second-game win, tallying five total blocks in the game. With the score tied at 11-11 in the final game, Clemson scored four straight points for the victory.

Juniors Skye Frost and Emily Gorla each recorded three service aces in the match-up. Stern led all Clemson hitters with 19 kills, four errors and 28 attacks for a .536 hitting percentage. She finished the match with five block assists and two block solos. Freshman Jodi Steffes led Clemson with nine digs, while sophomore setter Melissa Kudelka recorded 44 assists in the win.

Auburn (5-2) was led by Brook McCarley, who had nine kills, two errors and 19 total attempts for a .368 hitting percentage. Jaunelle Hamilton had four block assists and six digs.

Clemson (4-1) will play host to Central Florida on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the final match of the Big Orange Bash. Auburn will face Central Florida on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Jervey Gym.
