CLEMSON’S RECORD–Clemson has a 12-7 record overall, and a 3-4 mark in the ACC. The Lady Tigers are 6-1 at home this season.
THE SERIES–This will be the 19th meeting between Clemson and Florida State on the basketball court. Clemson leads the overall series 17-1. In games played at Tallahassee, FL the Lady Tigers lead 7-1.
CLEMSON LEADERS–Clemson is led in scoring by freshman sensation Chrissy Floyd as she is averaging 12.2 ppg. The Lady Tigers are led in rebounding by Erin Batth with a 7.3 rpg. mark. Batth is the Lady Tigers’ second leading scorer with a 9.4 ppg. average. Krystal Scott leads the Lady Tigers in assists with 58 or 3.1 assists per game.
GIANT KILLERS-The Clemson Women’s basketball team defeated 15th-ranked North Carolina, 60-59, on January 10. On January 13, the Lady Tigers defeated third-ranked N.C. State, 71-56.
DAVIS VS. RANKED TEAMS–Under Head Coach Jim Davis, the Lady Tigers have a 28-18 record against Associated Press-ranked teams at Clemson’s Littlejohn Coliseum.
Clemson Downs Wake Forest, 66-55–Freshman Chrissy Floyd scored 15 points, including 10 in the second half, leading Clemson to a 66-55 victory over Wake Forest in women’s college basketball action at Clemson’s Littlejohn Coliseum Monday, January 24. Clemson improved to 12-7 overall, 3-4 in the ACC, while Wake Forest fell to 6-12 overall, 2-5 in the ACC.
Floyd hit 6-12 shots from the field and added four steals in her 30 minutes of play. Starting guard Angie Cossey made 6-6 free throws, including 4-4 in the last 30 seconds and scored 12 points. The senior had three assists and no turnovers in 34 minutes.
It was an efficient game for the Lady Tigers in many ways. Jim Davis team committed just six fouls in the entire contest and committed just eight turnovers. Clemson forced 19 turnovers and had nine steals. Wake Forest held its own by playing even on the boards with Clemson, 35-35. Clemson shot 27 free throws to just four for Wake Forest.
Starting forwards Krystal Scott had a strong all-around game with five points, five rebounds and seven assists.
Reserve center Erin Batth had four points, six rebounds and five steals. Wake Forest was led by Janae Whitesite, a junior guard from Charlotte, NC who had 18 points, including four three-point goals in the second half. Guard Alisha Mosley had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. She was the only other double figure scorer for Wake Forest. LaChina Robinson had 10 rebounds for Wake Forest.
Wake Forest jumped to a 12-5 lead in the game’s first five minutes behind the play of Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick, who scored four early points. Clemson battled back to tie the game at 16 on a three-point goal by Angie Cossey. The teams played on basically even terms the remainder of the half and Clemson had a 27-26 lead at intermission. Byrd scored eight points in the first half to exceed her season average of six.
Wake Forest took a 34-32 lead early in the second half on a three-pointer by Whiteside. The Deacs still led 42-41 with 14:13 left. But, Clemson went on a 18-6 keyed by Floyd who scored eight points and assisted on another basket. A steal led to still another buck during the run. Clemson led 59-48 after a Batth basket with 4:10 left. Wake Forest cut the lead to 61-55 with 30 seconds left, but could get no closer, as Cossey made 4-4 free throws and Scott 1-2 inside the final 31 seconds of the game.
VIRGINIA DEFEATS CLEMSON IN DOUBLE OVERTIME–Lisa Hosac scored 19 points, including six in the two overtime periods in leading Virginia to a 77-74 win over Clemson in double overtime at Charlottesville, VA Thursday, January 20.
Clemson was led in scoring by Erin Batth with 14.
The Lady Tigers won the battle of the boards 36-35 and was led in rebounding by Nuria Forns with eight. Hosac had 13 for Virginia. In the first half, Clemson built a 7-1 lead with 17:50 left to go in the half as Joanie Mungro hit two field goals and Nuria Forns hit a long three. Clemson maintained its lead in the first half and Virginia came within one point of the Lady Tigers 17-16 with 7:22 remaining. From this point, Clemson went on a 8-1 run and built a 25-17 advantage with 2:55 left. Datishella Byrd had four points in the Lady Tiger rally. Clemson went on to take a 28-21 lead at the half.
In the second half, Virginia took a 52-44 lead with 4:50 left in regulation. Clemson went on a 9-2 run and came within one of the Cavaliers (54-53) with 2:07 left to go in the game. Chrissy Floyd scored four point in the Lady Tiger run. Virginia went ahead 58-53 with 1:02 left to go in regulation. From this point, Krystal Scott hit a field goal and Nuria Forns hit a three-point goal with :18 seconds remaining to tie the score 58-58. Both teams had a possession but was unable to convert.
In both overtimes, Clemson took four-point leads early. In the second overtime, Clemson took a 74-70 lead with 3:38 left to go in the game. From this point, Virginia outscored Clemson 7-0 and took a 77-74 win.
For the game, Clemson shot 30-69 from the floor for a .435 pct. Virginia shot 21-54 from the field for a .389 mark.
UPCOMING ACTION-Clemson will play at Florida State on January 27, in Clemson’s next game. The Lady Tigers will play host to Georgia Tech on January 31, at 7:30 p.m.

JOANIE MUNGRO IS BALANCED IN REBOUNDING–Joanie Mungro has 111 offensive rebounds and 116 defensive rebounds in her career at Clemson. The senior was a junior college transfer. For her career at Clemson, she is averaging 5.0 rpg.
CLEMSON IS YOUNG TEAM–Clemson has only three players who have played in 70 or more career games at Clemson. Chrissy Floyd has averaged more than 20 minutes per game. Floyd is averaging 29.0 minutes per game.
MUNGRO OVERCOMES OBSTACLES–Clemson’s Joanie Mungro had a pacemaker inserted in December. She has a rare, non-life threatening heart ailment that required a pacemaker. So far this season, she is averaging 24.0 minutes per game and has started 12 of the 13 games she has played.
Mungro is the Lady Tigers’ second leading rebounder this season with a 6.5 rpg. mark. Mungro leads the Lady Tigers in field goal pct. this season as she has hit 36-68 field goals for a .529 mark. For her career at Clemson, she has hit 97-197 from the field for a .492 pct.
LADY TIGER SHOOTING HAS IMPROVED–Clemson has hit 429-1091 from the field this season for a .393 mark. The Lady Tigers have shot over 40% eight times, and over 50% once this year. The Clemson opponents are shooting 408-1080 from the floor for a .378 pct. In the last five games, Clemson has shot 117-274 from the field for a .427 pct. Since the start of the new calendar year, Clemson has shot above 40% in six of the seven games played. Before January 1, 2000, the Lady Tigers reached the 40% mark in three of 12 games.
CLEMSON’S REBOUNDING–Clemson has been outrebounded by its opponents eight times this season. When Clemson outrebounds its opponents, the Lady Tigers are 9-1 this season. When the opponents outrebound Clemson, the Lady Tigers are 2-6. Wake Forest and Clemson tied in rebounding 35-35 on January 24. This year, Clemson is averaging 38.1 rpg. while the opponents are averaging 39.1 rpg. The Lady Tigers have never finished a season being outrebounded by its opponents under Head Coach Jim Davis.
FLOYD, A FRESHMAN SENSATION–Freshman Chrissy Floyd is Clemson’s leading scorer with a 12.2 ppg. average. This season she has hit 99-217 from the field for a .456 pct. She is also averaging 2.9 rpg. She is also the Lady Tigers’ leader on defense as she has 39 steals or 2.1 spg. This year, Floyd is averaging 29.0 minutes per contest. This year, she has led Clemson in scoring in five games this season, including the Lady Tigers’ 71-56 upset win over N.C. State. The last freshman to lead Clemson in scoring at the end of a season was Kerry Boyatt as she averaged 15.3 ppg. her freshman season in 1989-90, 10 years ago. That season Boyatt was named ACC Freshman-of-the-Year.
MORE STEALS THAN FOULS–Freshman Chrissy Floyd has more steals (39) than fouls (37), a rare occurrence in basketball stats. She leads the Lady Tigers in steals this season with 39.
KRYSTAL SCOTT HAS BECOME STARTER THIS SEASON–Krystal Scott has more than tripled her playing time this season compared to her playing time last year. This year she has played 564 minutes, and last year she played 155 minutes the entire year. She is averaging 8.5 ppg. this season and leads the squad in assists with 58. She is also a 73% free throw shooter this season. In Clemson’s upset win over North Carolina on January 10, Scott scored a career-high 16 points.
VS. ACC FOES–Chrissy Floyd has averaged 13.4 ppg. in Clemson’s ACC games this season. Erin Batth is also averaging 7.3 rpg. in Clemson’s ACC outings. Clemson is shooting 160-398 vs. ACC foes for a .402 pct.
LEONARD NAMED TO THE ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM–Amirah Leonard was named to the All-Tournament team at the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament on November 24 & 26. Leonard scored a career-high 25 points vs. Old Dominion and had 15 points in the Kentucky game.
HEAD COACH JIM DAVIS HAS 271 WINS AT CLEMSON--Head Coach Jim Davis has a 271-123 record at Clemson as he is in his 13th season. During his NCAA Division I career, he has a 290-131 record. Davis spent one season, 1986-87, at Middle Tennessee State and compiled a 19-8 record with the Lady Raiders that season.
CLEMSON HEAD COACH OVER THE CENTURY MARK IN ACC WINS–Clemson Head Coach Jim Davis has a 115-76 record against ACC foes during the regular season. He is the fourth winningest coach in the history of the ACC with the 115 league victories.
CLEMSON’S JIM DAVIS IS 8-6 IN OVERTIME GAMES DURING HIS CAREER-Head Coach Jim Davis is now 8-6 in overtime games during his career at Clemson. He has also guided the Lady Tigers to five wins in the last seven Clemson overtime games.
CLEMSON’S RECORD VS. RANKED TEAMS-Coach Jim Davis has defeated 43 top 25 teams since his arrival at Clemson in the 1987-88 season. At Littlejohn Coliseum, he has a 28-18 record vs. Associated Press Top 25 teams. In 1998-99, he was 5-6 vs. top 25 teams. This season he is 2-2 vs. AP top 25 teams. He has 11 top 25 wins over Virginia in his career, more than any other school.
CLEMSON’S DEFENSE-Under Coach Jim Davis, the Clemson Lady Tigers have held opponents to 50 points or less 57 times and have never allowed an opponent to reach the 100-point plateau. All 57 games have resulted in Lady Tiger victories. The Lady Tigers have only been held to 50 points or less twice during Davis’ tenure.
FIRST HOME GAME RECORD-Clemson now has a 22-3 record over the years when playing its first home game of the season. The Lady Tigers also have a 19-6 record over the years in season-opening games.
